Have you ever heard of Warren Buffett? Chances are, the answer is yes. But – in case you haven’t – let’s just say that he is reckoned to be among the top 5 richest people in the world.

His wealth fluctuates (along with the share price of Berkshire Hathaway, his investment company), but at the time of writing – early April 2025 – it’s somewhere around the $167 billion mark.
And to make you even more jealous, most people agree Buffett is one of the good guys. He’s donated over $50 billion to charity and lives modestly in the same Omaha house he bought in 1958 for $31,500. He drives his own car and likes to eat a McDonald’s Cheeseburger every now and then. You get the idea.
So, What’s His Secret?
What is the great man’s secret? What has made him so successful? Well, part of the answer to that question turns out to be not so secret at all. Because Buffett has told everyone what it is.
In a video (posted on LinkedIn in 2018), the legendary investor was asked what the single most important piece of advice was that he would give to someone setting out in the world today.
And his answer was simple: make an investment in your ability to communicate.
Warming to his theme, Buffett continued:
“If you can’t communicate, it’s like winking at a girl in the dark – nothing happens. You can have all the brainpower in the world, but you have to be able to transmit it.”
“And the transmission is communication.”
Why Communication Matters More Than Ever
Why is this theme of communication still so close to Buffett’s heart, halfway through his 10th decade?
It’s because, by his own admission, communicating is not something he always found easy. As a young man, Buffett – like so many of us – felt uncomfortable speaking in public.

To deal with the problem, he enrolled on a public speaking course at Carnegie Mellon University. He worked hard. He got better. Day by day, step by step.
And the rest – as they say – is history.
The man often regarded as the greatest investment genius of all time says going on that speaking course was one of the most valuable investments he ever made.
In Buffett’s view, conversation and communication aren't just soft skills – they're core to success in business and life.
Our Mission at Anglo Pass
That’s a view we wholeheartedly share here at Anglo Pass.
Helping you communicate better in English is the reason we exist and is central to everything we do. Sure, we do it because we enjoy it, but also because we genuinely believe that improving your English communication can transform your career prospects.
Why?
Because English is now the most widely spoken language in human history.
Indeed, current estimates put the number of English speakers at somewhere between 1.5 and 2 billion people globally. However you measure it, it’s a very big number.
English: The Language of Global Business
Nowhere has this trend had a greater impact than in the world of business – especially for multinational corporations whose operations depend on instant, global communication.
Unsurprisingly, many such organisations have adopted English as their working language, making Business English skills more vital than ever if you want to access career opportunities.
But what are these vital communication skills that helped Buffett – and could help you – achieve dazzling success?
It’s Not About Jargon
Do you need to know lots of technical business jargon? Well, no. Not really. Buffett, as a business and economics graduate, already knew all the technical language. Just like you probably know plenty of English terms related to your own job.
And yet – he still signed up for the course. Why?
Because what he needed was to communicate clearly and confidently. To operate successfully in the world of work – no matter what you do – you need to be able to communicate.
And to do that, you don’t need perfect English. You need the right English.
Communication Is No Longer Optional
No matter what an organisation does – nor where it’s based – its employees, team leaders and department heads all need to use English effectively to carry out their roles.
Put simply, being an effective English communicator is a non-negotiable part of your professional development.
Whether you work in marketing, finance, HR or tech, you won’t rise to the top until you’ve got to grips with the art and science of interpersonal communication.
And it’s not just for those in big companies. If you’re a remote freelancer or business owner, strong English skills mean you can work with clients in New York, London or Singapore – and charge global rates.
That’s Where We Come In
And that’s where our Business English Accelerator course comes in. Expertly designed to equip you with the skills you need to succeed in an English-speaking workplace, it’s the course to join in 2025. You’ll learn:
Real-world phrases
Professional expressions
Cultural and interpersonal skills
The kind of English you actually use at work – to manage people, evaluate information, lead meetings, or make great small talk.
Speak Better. Earn Better.
Learning Business English isn’t just about speaking better. It’s about earning better.
It’s one of the few skills that can change your income, your confidence, and your future – all at once. Just ask Warren Buffett.
As Buffett said in a 2015 interview with Zoe Segal:
“A relatively modest improvement can make a major difference in your future earning power, as well as in many other aspects of your life.”
“The one easy way to become worth 50 percent more than you are now – at least – is to hone your communication skills.”
A Final Tour of Buffett’s Office
Before we finish, let me take you on a quick tour of Warren Buffett’s office. What does the man with everything have on his walls?
You’ll see framed newspaper front pages, a photo of his father, and some sporting memorabilia - Buffett’s a big fan of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football team.
But look closely, and you’ll also spot a Certificate of Academic Achievement. Not from the University of Nebraska. Not from Columbia Business School.
It’s from Carnegie Mellon’s Speaking Course – the course he says gave him “the most important degree I have.”
“It’s certainly had the biggest impact in terms of my subsequent success. The impact that class had on my life was huge.”
And how much did Buffett pay to become a more effective communicator?
Just $100.
It’s Time to Buffett Your Business English
So, we’re sure you’ll agree – it’s high time to Buffett your Business English communication skills.
And there is no better way to do it than with the Business English Accelerator course here at Anglo Pass.
It won’t cost you a fortune.
But who knows – it may just help make you one.
